Photo Tips And Tricks
From advance planning to lighting, props, and posing, there's a lot you can do to make your shoot and photos look great.

A few well-placed props can really make your photos pop! Ensuring that your dance photos really capture that special moment requires planning, effort and skill. Here are just a few photography related tips and questions that should be asked prior to your event.
Photographers
- Hire a reputable, professional event photographer.
- Peruse photographer’s portfolio of dance/event photography.
- What is the experience level and qualifications of the photographers who will be shooting the event?
- Professional photographers usually come equipped with practically two of everything to ensure a problem free shoot, but its best to ask just to make sure.
- Does the photographer have a good selection of backdrops to suit your theme? (That's where WE come in! See more on this below.)
- How many pictures are taken per couple/group to ensure no one has blinked?
- What are the photo package options and pricing?
- How long before the pictures are processed and delivered after the event?
- What kind of folders, if any, come with the pictures, and are they imprinted?
- Are there any guarantees of satisfaction?
Number of Guests
Make sure your photographer is familiar with these points about the location where they will be setting up the shoot:
- How many guests will be attending? Depending on the number of people you may need anywhere from 1 to 5 or more camera setups to sufficiently avoid lengthy waiting times.
- What provisions will be made in terms of crowd control while guests are waiting to have their photos taken?
Make sure your photographer is familiar with these points about the location where they will be setting up the shoot:
- Lighting. Rooms with highly reflective surfaces or strong ambient light can be a challenge and may require special preparation.
- Location of electrical outlets and their voltage.
- Dimensions of the room. The photographer needs to ensure that there is room enough for multiple camera setups (if necessary), equipment and access to and from the area. Ceiling height is also important to note.
- Space for lines of people waiting to have their pictures taken.
- Location of emergency fire exits.
The Set
- Work with the photographer to select backdrops that are perfectly suited to your theme. You're sure to find the right one here, or we can create a Custom Design specifically tailored to your theme.
- If mylar or paper are to be used as part of the set’s flooring, avoid puncturing by making sure the flooring is of a hard material and not soft like carpeting.
- Props (plants, benches, pillars, etc.) can really go a long way toward turning a good set into a GREAT one! See our Photographer Gallery page for some examples.
